I recently built a couple of '00' Parkside 21T BR mineral wagon kits - very nice too, but a couple of the buffers got broken off during painting. I thought it would be worth getting some metal ones as replacements anyway. However, I'm realising there's more to buffers than first meets the eye! Can anyone point me in the direction of where I might get hold of suitable replacements - they are the type with reinforcing ribs and a square securing plate.

Been doing some internet 'research' and came across this page on the scalefour website which has some useful diagrams of the various buffer types produced by Alan Gibson.
My next question is do these buffers come complete or do you have to buy the buffer heads, bushes and springs seperately?

Alan Gibson's buffers come as a complete pack. The heads and springs are available separately in case you need spares. It might be worth getting a pack of springs - they have a mystical property of disappearing.
You might also want to look at those made by MJT, although I can't remember if they are available in sprung versions. You only need sprung buffers though if you are using an appropriate coupling. If you use tension locks, for instance, the buffer faces will never touch.

I guess I'll need the sprung buffers as I'm using 3/screw-link couplings - although actually, having said that, I hadn't been intending to convert the buffers on all my stock to sprung versions despite using scale couplings. I guess I'll just have to see how things run first - as I'll only ever be operating at low speeds (my layout - still in the planning stages at present - will be a
15' long branch terminus) I might be able to get away with fixed buffers on some stock.Matt
