Generic exhibition risk assessment - available to all

For the benefit of those who don't immediately scream "nanny state" the Wessex Association of Model Railway Clubs have a generic Risk Assessment Document published on line all clubs are welcome to share. We have recently updated it with an overview of the new 17th Edition IEE regulations as these change in June 2008 and therefore affect UK based model railway exhibitions from June onwards.

Generic Risk Assessment & the Electrical Regs supplement both linked to from this page. As the guides are intended to aid best practice at public events and thereby assist in keeping the lawyers off our backs all feed back welcomed. Safe working at events is a worldwide issue so let's all share, the wider the base of input the better the legal defence if the untoward does occur.

From experience with this topic elsewhere I know some readers will immediately think this risk assessment process is all a total waste of time. If you do think it is all a waste of time then that's fair enough but please don't simply flame this thread. This topic thread will be monitored over the coming weeks for sensible feedback and if you do have suggestions for improving this Mark 1 version set of documents for the purpose intended please post that here.

Please don't take my comments as flaming!

It has been so refreshing to live in a country where responsibilty is a personal affair and where for years I held my breath waiting for the inevitable which oddly never arrived!

I have read and listened to my compatriots explaining the "cannot do it because of the insurance" situation in the UK and am beginning to see a little clearer just how that arose.

A lot of my life was spent in the assessment of risk in the nuclear world and I cannot remember feeling quite so depressed whilst contemplating the possibilities of that world as I did whilst reading of the possibilities of life threatening events in the exhibition world.

It is nice to know that the 17th is no improvement on my old enemy the 15th ed.

Good luck to all who dare to sail in the good ship Exhibition.
