A problem with the models was that they wobbled as they ran round the track
and children at one exhibition at which Awdrey was exhibiting said his engine waddled like a duck - and so he adopted the name!
My first exhibition layout, back in 1970, included a detailed and two-railed Gaiety pannier. It certainly waddled, and also managed to generate a
*steam-like* chuff-chuff as it trundled along.
