Water, water everywhere

I have some Woodland Scenics EZ-Water with which I am experimenting. It seems pretty good as long as you follow a few basic principles (for example, it seems to flow massively better if the surface is prepared with PVA and allowed to dry first, and this also prevents dust floating off and spoiling the surface). Underwater weeds are particularly easy, just lay in some Games Workshop flock "grass".

For ponds, it would appear to be absolutely perfect and dead easy to use.

So that is one water technique that seems to work, and there are many others described on the interwebs.

My question is, can you get surface effects (ripples, foam, splashes) with the EZ-Water, or is there a better product for producing flowing water effects?

A few years ago I saw a model with a beach and very effective small "waves" just about to break on the sand. If I remember correctly the waves were made by arranging a "sausage" of some stuff that to me looked similar to cotton wool (but much lighter) in the water, then teasing it up with a pin or similar a little as the water dried. White horses were merely this stuff not covered in model water.

I'm sorry I don't know what the stuff was, or whether it would be suitable with EZ-Water, but as I say it looked very effective. Maybe you could experiment with something similar.

No, but it's a really good idea! I will try it out. Thanks.
