AIR-GAS- price gouging

No, I think that I dealt with the person named Rick.

Terrace is closer to me and they are open on saturdays, which was a clincher.

We have a HF in Aurora.

I dunno, I think that at this point I am set with the supplier of gas, for now.

What do you need to calibrate it, a voltage standard? I had one, but I sold it. I have a few relatively accurate hp 8050A voltmeters that you can compare against your fluke, although they do not have a current calibration.

I just recently started buying gas. I had a B tank Acethlene and O2 tank exchange and it cost me $54.65 with fee's and taxes. Is that about what everyone else is paying for B size tanks? I went to Praxair as it's the closest to me. Airgass is father away and the hours are not convenient.

It's a tad on the high side but not totally out of line. The fact is that the small tanks cost nearly as much to fill (and sometimes more) than the big tanks. I know that my cost on a 225+ Oxy tank is cheaper than I can get a little 20 cu ft tank filled for.

He really pegged it, the manager plus the individual employees make or break a store. I deal with welding supply's across the country and there are Airgas stores that are excellent and Airgas stores that I won't step foot in. There are Praxair stores that excell, and Praxair stores that trully should be blown from the map (figuritively of course : )). The few remaining small independant stores (usually in small towns) usually render great service, and middle of the road prices. I'm a commercial customer and I recieve some of the worst customer service imaginable from welding supply stores (including incredable price swings from town to town with international companies I've had an account with for well over a decade) but also some of the best. So blame it on the human beings that man the particular store, not the conmpany. Mr. Asch-in the Bakersfield area the Praxair store has always been very good with me. My take on welding supply stores where I spend an innordinant amount of my time, like it or not.

I believe it's right on Buck Owens Blvd, on the west side of the street. You can see it from the freeway. They also have one of the best welding machine guru's in the west there. His name is Wendell and he's a nice guy. They are a praxair warehouse as well as a store. Of course I haven't been there for a couple of years so who knows but they had a good bunch in there then.

Ive been in there a time or two over the years. Big problem is that most places close before noon on Saturday..its 35 miles over to there each way..and Im in LA during the week.

Ill have to try to get over there on a Monday when Im home. They used to have a big back 40 filled with used welding machines...lots of SA-200s came out of there

Taft used to be pretty nice..we had at least 5 welding supply stores running at the same time..they started closing down or moving out in the 90s, when the oil patch really started to slump. Liquid Air was the last to go..about 3 yrs ago, about 400 yrds from my house, open until 3 on Sat, as was Taft Welding, Baker Welding. Hoppers closed at noon on Saturday. A fella could usually find something he needed after hours, for a $20 "tip" or a case of beer, if he had the right phone numbers and didnt abuse it.

Use your phone and get prices over the phone. My experience is that welding supply places will match lower prices at another store, if you tell them.

I did tell him that I normally get it filled for $25, then he started going off about the gas shortage.

But you are right , I should have called first , I am sure they would not quote the most expensive rate over the phone.

The gross profit numbers tell you nothing, unless you are familiar with their system. Gross profit is simply a number used on the way to determining the numbers that really count, net profit before taxes. gross profit isn't comparable between companies because different companies use different criteria to determine their gross. Net is net, no matter the system. A good example of the success of the left in fostering class envy. You're mad, you don't have any idea what the numbers mean, but you're still mad about them.
