My boss just bought a Hobart MIG welder for repairing various types of commercial food service equipment. Is there a good book to help me get started? I would like it to cover all the basics: safety, different materials, techniques as well as theory. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
If you are doing commercial food equipment, you are welding stainless steel. If your boss bought a MIG for stainless, he bought the wrong welder. You need a TIG. Stainless MIG for NSS standards is sloppy, hard to weld, and increases the finishing time by the order of four.
I have had trouble navigating Lincoln's site for over a year now. I refuse to put up with their cookies, scripts, flash, Java or whatever the crap is that it needs to work. Mostly the only time I can see anything there is if someone provides a "direct link" to the page. Oh well, there's lots of fish in the ocean.
I have recently found a way that usually works to get a foot in the door. From the home page, I click on the "Products" square which takes me to a page that informs me that my browser is not set up to Lincoln's liking. There they provide a direct link to the literature request page and most of the links work although they didn't for the past 2 years or so.
I called Lincoln when I first noticed it and they acted completely obtuse to any reason for it. I'm surprised they didn't suggest an OS reinstall. (...which now I know would have fixed it since Windows installs with all the goodies enabled.)
I have to say they were nice enough to mail me any document I wanted during that time. It just frustrates me that they have a website that needs such special attention to visit. If they did the same with their welders they'd require nitro-methane fuel for the engine drives and 3-phase for everything else. It's not Burger King for sure! (Hold the pickles and the lettuce, special orders don't upset us...) I'll have to "graduate" to Miller's site to see if they have anything good to chew on.
