I've just repaired a 2 ton engine crane that I got from a chap who had managed to bend the fold down legs that stick under the car. These are each 53" of 70mm square 3mm thick box section that pivots and is retained on pins with 'R clips'. Sensibly the design had tubes welded across the square section where the pins go as re-inforcement, and I thought it worth spending a bit of time recovering the tubes to re-use them in the new legs I was making. To my horror a single tap with a hammer knocked the tubes right out. Zero penetration on the welds !! Needless to say I've been over the rest of it checking where I can
