fluxwire vs solid wire

I´m learning to use a MIG with fluxwire (no gas). Now I have the chance to try a machine running with solid wire and CO2 gas at my job. Will there be a big difference as to the settings and results? The machines are of comparable power.

Rod: BIG DIF DUDE! What you see whilst welding, is what is laid. :) Size and all. :):):)

There won't be a big difference but there will be a difference. You have to remember that fluxcore wire is hollow so the size of it is equivalent to about the next size smaller in solid wire as far as wire speed goes. It also burns hotter so the voltage setting will be a bit less than the solid equivalent. So to answer your question... with same metal, but going from .035 fluxcore to .030 or .023 solid with CO2, you will have to turn both settings up more.

Rod: Wrong, period!

Rod: Wrong, it depends on the wire and it's polarity!

Rod: You sir are correct! :) I knew you wouldn't finally let me down! :):):)
