postings

Have followed this group since 1998. Met many friends along the way.

My real concern is the off topic stuff, including the "look at my girlfriend stuff".

I'd like to go to a place where we can discuss/argue/advise/agree metalworking subjects. I've learned a lot over the years.

I think most who lurk or post here want to read metalworking articles, not the other stuff.

If I want to look at Broccoli Spears hooters, I know where to go to get that, as well. Don't mind doing it-just not here. I'm sure many others feel the same.

Is there a webmaster or moderator around here??

Thanks for the vent.

Good Luck

This isn't the web. It is the distributed anarchy called usenet. According to Netscan, there are currently 749 moderators for this newsgroup. Each one moderates the group by deciding which posts he wishes to read, and which ones he wants to ignore.

So if you want to complain to one of those moderators, look in the mirror. You have total power to decide which posts you read, and which you ignore. What you do not have is the ability to control what others post or read.

That's the way usenet works.

Didn't think it was too bad, ackshirley, but maybe my newsserver blocks quite a bit of junk.

This group and RCM isn't nearly as bad as some newsgroups. We've got it pretty easy if you ask me.

I share in your frustration Brad. As others have already mentioned, there is nothing that can be done as the posts you refer to are placed here buy individuals that just blanket usenet. But this group is really pretty free of what you see in many other groups.

All I can suggest, as these posts are easily identified by their subject line, is to put on mental blinders and just ignore them. With a little luck, the ones posting them will get hit by a bus in the near future (preferably by one with lots of advertising on it).
