How much more OT can this group have?

In my newsreader today, over half of the messages in this newsgroup were marked offtopic.

Can we please keep rec.crafts.metalworking *mostly* associated with, say, the craft of metalworking?

Some of us like some of the OT posts. That is why they are marked "OT". Don't read them if you don't want to.

Brent Methinks that some posters are here for the metalworking, some for the crafts, and some for the rec. Me, I started here for the metal working but soon came to the realization that I'm walking in some perty tall cotton with this group. I've been exposed to some brilliant minds and people, and a few tarnished ones. Its sorta like when I'm combining wheat, I separate the wheat from the chaff. Ya gotta kinda combine what ya get here too. lg no neat sig line

I came for the metalworking, but most of the metalworking stuff you guys discuss is way over my head yet. I skim through quite a few of the metalworking posts, and I'm starting to get a better understanding of what it all means, but I'm not to where I can actually contribute anything to them yet. And as a group you all seem to know something about everything, so I know why people ask all these OT questions here - they're pretty much guaranteed to get some sort of answer from someone who knows what they're talking about.

I've read all the responses to my message, and well, if others don't agree then that's fine. I'll continue to ignore most of the OT stuff as I've been doing.

But on one thing we agree: this newsgroup is full of posters who know what the heck they are talking about, and that's what makes this newsgroup good. A little OT won't kill it.

cheers,
