Solid-Ox uses a pellet that is ignited, an exothermic reaction librates oxygen. Use it with MAPP gas or propane to get a flame temp suitable for welding steel. I have one, works fine for very small work. Downside is the pellets are very expensive. I got mine on a closeout so I don't worry. When the pellet supply is gone, I'll toss it. I have Mig, Arc, and O-A, but I still use it sometimes when I want to do a tiny project in the basement rather than firing up the big stuff in the garage.
cheers.
