My sincere thanks to each and every one of you. Other than the fact that I don't have a single microgram of aluminum welding experience I believe I now can tackle the cracks successfully.
Today I dug out my Dotco pencil grinder and some burrs. Hopefully, it will upen the cracks cleanly and easily.
I'll keep y'all posted.
