tig welding 7075 aluminum

Anyone done it, I've read to use 5356 alloy filler, but was wondering what special procedures i may need to follow as opposed to 5052 sheetmetal. I will be welding bar stock.

thanks zac

I started the same thread just a few days ago. I was advised the zinc content was too high for welding, so I changed the alloy I was using to 3003 ( just what I had on hand)

Just for kicks, I ran a few beads on 7075 with 4043, 5356, and 1100 filler, and every time the weld cracked, especially at the crater, no matter how long I left the postflow on.

Cheers, Jay

Don't bother.

5052 is a dream to work with. 7075 is only for machining.
