Yes, we do.
Every exp tig welder I know has a collection of wood blocks and the like to make welding more precise and comfortable..
There will be times these advantages are not available-take advantage when you can. Especially when welding in the field.

Yes we do. The trick is to learn to glide your torch hand along the table without anchoring it down and pivoting.
Use smooth pieces of plastic, wood or metal as glide surfaces if the table is rough or the weld is in an inconvenient position. You can't always do this, but it sure helps consistency.
