welds of stainless steel

Oct 13, 2003 2 Replies

Hi, new to this goup and was wondering if anyone knew of a chemical for clean the blackish brown burn marks of a stainless steel. I have tried pickling paste but it attacks my grained finish. This parts have to be good looking with a grain finish and it is very time consuming to try to finish them after welding.

thanks for any advice ya'll may have.

Electro cleaning with a citric acide type pickle does much less damage to a brushed finish.

I use Citrisurf, it is very kind to brushed finishes.

Have you tried electochemical cleaning. This involves dilute solutions that you can put you hands in and some of the equipment is capable of electropolishing. This process has been described in previous posts.
