Best .25 "Value" Engine?

I'm looking at the offerings for a new .25, particularly those that don't cost an arm and a leg. Tower offers the OS Max LA, the Fox, the GMS and the Magnum. What is the experience with these (and others)?

I'm looking for power & dependability, don't care at all about the carbs or idle characteristics.

Thanks!

Dennis

I'd recommend an old OS Max .25FSR if you can find one. They are fine engines, IMHO. Bill Kolofa

The best .25 engine is a Webra Speed .28. Strong, and reliable. Reasonably priced.

The best of the cheap 25s from Tower is the Thunder Tiger 25:

I just bought and have flown an OS .25 FX from the local shop. Fantastic running engine, plenty of power and a good idle for around $85.

I'll second the vote for Thunder Tiger .25. I'll take it a step further and say that I believe their entire line of two cycle engines are a best buy.....Powerful, Reliable and Affordable. What more could you ask for?

I have a couple of GMS .25s. Good power, good idle, no problems so far. I used GMS's engine trade-in program (don't know if they're still doing that or not. You'll have to go to their web site) so I got the engines dirt cheap. In my book that makes them a pretty good value engine.

The GMS is probably the most powerfull of the ones you have listed, followed closely by the Fox and Magnum. The Fox would last the longest, but you need all castor fuel or at least store bought synthitic / castor with additional castor oil added. Fox has the best service, but Magnum is almost as good. Guess which one depends on what is important to you.

You really need to check Hobbypeople, Horizon, and Quantum sites, there are other engines and better prices.

In that case, the OS .32 is the same size and weight of an OS .25 FX, and will fly many .40 size planes with more authority than a standard .40

Although more expensive, it prehaps could be a much more versatile engine for your future needs.
