I sometimes buy stuff on e-bay, but not usually from dealers.Most of the time a dealers "reserve price" is the same as the "Buy it Now"price which is just about the RETAIL price for that plane or part. Some ofthe dealers will charge upwards of $36.00 for shipping a 40 size ARF. Whata scam!!So I try to make sure the person selling the plane is not a regular e-baydealer.Just needed to vent,opinions will vary, WJ

I agree totally with Paul MacIntosh's post. I don't expect to get paid for packaging up a plane for shipping, and I don't like having to pay for "handling". Just the actual shipping costs. But that's just how I see it.

Regarding demanding more money for shipping, that's too bad. If I say $5.00 for shipping in the ad, and when I get down to the P.O. they say $10.00, then the difference is on me. I should have checked beforehand. And I won't buy if I can't get a fixed shipping price from the seller. None of that "buyer pays all shipping costs" for me. I will e-mail and ask what those costs are, and not buy if I can't get a straight answer.

I agree, too. Many auctions have the function where you can enter your zipcode and UPS gives you the cost which is then added to the 'check out' price. Very nice.

When I have something on eBay, I usually state "Buyer pays actual shipping costs". Very rarely do I have people ask me what the actual cost will be before the auction ends. Shipping will be just that. I package the item, ask the buyer for their zip, and get the cost from USPS site.

I don't have a problem with that statement. It's the "shipping costs will be specified later" that I avoid like the plague. They could charge you anything they want! I have received items that I bought that said ..."actual shipping costs" where the seller charged $6 and when I get the item the postage on it is $1.85! That's a rip and dishonest. I'm going to leave negative feedback the next time that happens.

This started out with a complaint about the cost for packaging and shipping a helicopter. If you took the heli to a packer, they would charge you a LOT for packing. Would you not want to recoup that cost?

Sincxe I am the one that posed the original question, let me answer that. Had he told me it would cost $163 to mail it I would NOT have bid. He told me $59.xx to mail it and I accepted. To change that by over $100 after the auction, after it was shipped was ridiculous. It removes my ability to say no. So I said no.

Update...

I received the chooper in undamaged condition, but the chopper's Bell body is a mess, poorly done, holes drilled everywhere. Stobe lights burned out, and the retracts disconnected and the servos not working. So I paid too much for somnething that needs to be totally refurbished, God knows if the chopper even runs.... Caveat Emptor. I got ripped off for what I paid and do not feel bad he lost his shipping. The unit was not as described in the auction. Well It will make a long winter project with glue and a new paint job plus parts...

I agree that he should have gotten the full price together before giving you an estimate. His loss on that count.

As far as the condition of the chopper, that's another story!

I get free shipping for large ARFs...but then, some people hate that Tower Club thing. ;-)
