Eleven thousand Americans

I'm not the originator of this, but I'll gladly post it and take the heat.

Eleven thousand soldiers lay beneath the dirt and stone, all buried on a distant land so far away from home.

For just a strip of dismal beach they paid a hero's price, to save a foreign nation They all made the sacrifice.

And now the shores of Normandy Are lined with blocks of white: Americans who didn't turn from someone else's plight.

Eleven thousand reasons for the French to take our side, but in the moment of our need, they chose to run and hide.

Chirac said every war means loss, perhaps for France that's true, for they've lost every battle since the days of Waterloo.

Without a soldier worth a damn to be found within the region, the French became the only land to need a Foreign Legion.

You French all say we're arrogant. Well hell, we've earned the right-- We saved your sorry nation when you lacked the guts to fight.

But now you've made a big mistake, and one that you'll regret; you took sides with our enemies, and that we won't forget.

It wasn't just our citizens you spit on when you turned, but every one of yours who fell the day the towers burned.

You spit upon our soldiers, on our pilots and Marines, and now you'll get a little sense of just what payback means.

So keep your Paris fashions and your wine and your champagne, and find some other market that will buy your airplanes.

And try to find somebody else to wear your French cologne, for you're about to find out what it means to stand alone.

You see, you need us far more than we ever needed you. America has better friends who know how to be true.

I'd rather stand with warriors who have the will and might, than huddle in the dark with those whose only flag is white.

I'll take the Brits, the Aussies, the Israelis and the rest, for when it comes to valor we have seen that they're the best.

We'll count on one another as we face a moment dire, while you sit on the sideline with a sign, "friendship for hire."

We'll win this war without you and we'll total up the cost, and take it from your foreign aid, and then you'll feel the loss.

And when your nation starts to fall, well Frenchie, you can spare us, just call the Germans for a hand, they know the way to Paris.

You don't need heat, you just need a hug. That is a very unenlightened poem though. I was worried about possibly dignifying it by responding but that is not possible.

I dare say most americans aren't as small minded as that poem implies, and I'd hate to think that 11,000 americans died so we can play troll on the newsgroups.

Part of what they died FOR was the liberation of France, and the fact that France can today make it's own decions is lasting proof of that liberty.

May you be well and happy.

Dr.1: Not sure what to say: although I certainly agree with the poem: not sure this was the place to post it: however I'm not really sure where exactly it should be posted:: "I still love ya man"

Thanks, Denis. I just figured after the recent "Stupid Americans" debaucle, with well over 50 replies, that this would be the PERFECT place.

Ironic, isn't it, that so many of our ON-TOPIC R/C threads get, oh, maybe 10 or so replies...more if we gotta argue about the brand of light bulb...but ANY so-called "political rhetoric" draws out everybody including the lurking wannabes. ;-)

I usually never respond to posts that aren't associated with RC, especially if they have a political implication.

But This is GREAT . It sure says a lot , and echos my sentiments perfectly.

Way to go Dr......no heat from me , would however , give you a hug if I could :-). Thanks

Personally I can't imagine any so called "rich daddy" who wouldn't treat you like the runt of the litter you are and toss you off a bridge in a burlap bag!

And the question remains, stupid enough to vote for Bush or smart enough to vote against Kerry?

You make a good point. The percentage of Americans who vote in national elections is pitiful. It seems that a lot DO just want to bitch and moan and DON'T really want to do anything to change things. I've voted in every national election since I was eligible at 18, and will continue to do so until I can't mark a ballot, pull a lever, or push a button. So many people in America forget that free elections with secret ballots are a privilege of living in the USA, and not a right. They are a privilege that most other countries don't have.

Bottom line: If you don't like it, vote to change it or get the hell out. You outsiders (read "foreigners") cone and live in the USA for a few years, THEN criticize what we do and how we do it. BY VOTING. Dr.1 Driver "There's a Hun in the sun!"
