Li-Manganese Batteries

Hi

I'm looking for some new batteries. High discharge rate Li-pos would normally be my first choice. But Li-Managanese have the same discharge rates, and cost less for the same power densities. I have even heard that they are safer as well.

So, what is the collective wisdom of this NG?

Then why aren't you buying them rather than Lithium Polymer? And let the rest of us know where you are getting them.

From what I gather Li-managanese are Li-ion or Li-poly batteries. mk

Because I am tired of being first on the block to discover that the new big thing doesn't live up to its billing.

They weigh too much.

LIPOS are No 1 choice for very good reasons.

And they are not that expensive anymore

have a look at

for example.

Lithium Manganese are technically spoken Lithium Ion accumulators - you don't want them in your model, for they are more heavy and need a good set of electronics for both recharge and actual use - go for LiPo Accus - they are more userfriendly and as long as you don't short-circuit them, punctuate their case or drown them, they are a lot of fun for their money - actually we use LiPo's for our wearable computing solutions for exactly the same reasons.

Lithium Manganese are of two different types. 1. One time discharge 2. Rechargeable to MAX of 300 cycles before they're shot. I'm not switching. They're not ready for prime time in my opinion.

Nope. Different compound. They won't burst into flames like lipos will.

Jim-

If you are getting 300 cycles out of Lipo's, you're a) doing much better than most, and b) operating them well below the vendor's C rating and not even getting close to 3V/cell on discharge.
