Re: another repair question

If they are glued in properly, the best way to do it is cut them off flush and install new ones along side the old ones. Just about anything else you could do would cause more damage.

Unless the hinge points are offset into the wing or flight control surface so that the hinge pins are inaccessible, you can _very carefully_ grind off the head of the pin and remove it.

You have to keep the temperature down, or the plastic will deform.

When you're ready to re-attach the flight control surface, use a short length of brass tubing to replace the hinge pin, and just pinch each end where it protrudes from the hinge - that flattens the tubing and it is then captive.

You may have to do a bit of 'shopping' to find suitable brass tubing.

Alternatively, you can use steel rod of the proper diameter and bend a

90 degree ear on either side of the hinge.

Whatever it takes to make the pin captive. Cheers, Fred McClellan the dash plumber at mindspring dot com

I like your idea. I would have just cut them flush and put new ones in.

I _detest_ installing hinges, and avoid having to do it _twice_ if at all possible. Cheers, Fred McClellan the dash plumber at mindspring dot com
