Replacing electronics: ESC/Servo question

Oke, since I got a nice shiny new Hitec Laser 6 from my wonderful significant other for my 200% Stryker project I figured I'd spend a few dollars at my LHS and ditch the much-hated 27MHz propietary TX/RX in my standard Stryker. Since I have no intention whatsoever to go brushless and don't have much money left on my allowance I came up with these components:

GWS LiPo ESC 480 (there are two versions... one for Futaba and one for JR... which one would be right for me? JR I suppose?)

2x HS55 Servos

1x Receiver? Er... no idea. Any small one they have I guess.

Does this make sense or am I just crazy? The main reason for switching is really to get rid of 27MHz interference since I now have a proper radio anyway...

Nevermind - I went ahead and bought all the itty bitty things this morning. Off to the flying field...

I've never experienced 27 MHz interference here.

72 MHz interference, I have.

JR vs. Futaba is usually a receiver thing, not an ESC thing. The plugs are slightly different, but JR plugs fit into Futaba slots as-is, and Futaba plugs fit into JR slots after a tiny bit of harmless surgery with an exacto knife.

Ok, but very fragile. Will probably strip in a hard crash. HS81MG would be a better choice.

The Hitec radio uses the same shift as Futaba gear, so you'll need one with a Futaba/Hitec negative shift. JR/Airtronics gear is unlikely to work.

Hopefully you didn't get a JR shift RX to go with the Hitec TX -- I don't think that model of TX allows you to change the shift (but some other Hitec radios do.)

I do fly in parks a lot, and there's the occasional kid with his 27MHz Wallyworld-Toy around. It's probably better at the field, but I hardly ever go there since I don't like the comments I get from some of the guys there.

Ahhhh oke that makes sense, since I believe it did mention plugs somewhere.

Hmmm they're slightly bigger, but you're right. Stronger is better.

Ah oke! The one I have works (LHS just told me it should, hooray for LHS), but it's good to know that shift thing.

No, everything's working fine. It was a bit on the very windy side out there, but full throttle took care of that. It also feels better to have a "proper" TX in hand with two sticks as opposed to the one-stick-one-slider config of the ParkZone TX.
