Rubber Powered Flying Models

I'm not intending to be off topic, but would anyone know of a newsgroup such as this that talks about rubber? Is it something that ever gets coverage here? As you may have already guessed, I'm new here.

Cheers

Welcome!

You might try this page for links and other resources: .

I personally won't object if you want to ask questions here. A few of your concerns might coincide with ours (balsa, glue, CG, etc.).

There is some stuff on "Free Flight" forum of RC-groups (found through ezonemag), but most lively discussion that I have found is in the "Free Flight Mailing List" (FFML). I think Google should elp finding these.

Free flight models aren't so wildly different from radio controlled aircraft that they're inappropriate to talk about here, so your questions should be welcome. After all, a radio controlled aircraft that suffers a receiver failure is just a really expensive free flight model that's bound to land badly! :)

The free flight mailing list (FFML) will be found if you go to Yahoo groups and put ffml into the search box there.

The daily e-mails (or you can read online) cover all the topics you are wanting to know about. There is quite a lot of traffic on the group everyday.

You will have to establish an account with Yahoo groups.. I.D and the e-mail address you wish to use, otherwise you can't read the group's messages.

Thanks for the link. Very nicely organized. I'm looking into geared rubber power and have devoted a lot of time in getting a workable system constructed.

Well that sounds scary! I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

If you do post anything here on that topic why not post to rec.models.freeflight as an experiment? On the server that I'm seeing it has 83 posts going back to some time in 2004; they're all the sort of spam that gets sent to every newsgroup in existence.

It would be interesting to see if it would come alive.

I have tried as you suggest and it seems like it may need resuscitation. Do you know CPR just in case?

Newsguy.com (my news provider) doesn't have it listed as an available group.

I don't know the history of the group.

I suspect someone created it on a news server without going through the standard procedures for having an official Big Eight group.

The procedures for creating new newsgroups have been suspended and a very extensive discussion is underway about how new procedures might be instituted. Cf. for details.

When the smoke clears on the new procedures, it might be possible to get rec.models.freeflight re-created.

[P.S. If two copies of this post reach the group, please forgive me. If only one makes it, please forgive me anyway. :o) ]

That's interesting -- it's active on my server but all that's there is spam.
