Loading a program with BTR device Mori-Seki SL-1

Now my problem getting the newly installed BTR device to work. It is all hooked up but not sending data. The problem is that the manual says to set the switches to edit and com then press start to run the tape and download the program to memory. There is no start button other than cycle start. I am not sure the manual is specific for my machine since I have several that vary slightly. Anyone remember using tape on this type lathe before? It may be that I still have problems with the com port on the computer, cable etc but just want to be sure I am setting up the machine properly first.

Thanks Keith Clark

Keith,

1) Set the mode select switch to EDIT 2) Set the EDIT toggle switch to ON 3) Press the RESET Key 4) Press COM Key (located in the set of function keys) 5) Set the NUMBER "00" using the NUMBER keys (next to the address keys) 6) Press the Read/Punch/Start key (top right of the numeric key pad, Not the Cycle Start Button.)

Tom,

I think that is the problem. My machine does not have an edit toggle switch nor a set of address keys, nor a read/punch/start key that I can find. I have a function rotation switch that I can set to edit and another similar switch that I can set to com. I also have the reset key. My addresses are in a rotation switch rather than on a keypad. This is an older machine. I have 2 manuals. One describes the process as you have and the other manual describes the switches that I have but mentions the start key that I can't find. Does this make sense?

Thanks Keith

Keith,

I didn't know the old yasnac control on the Mori's came in more than one style. I cannot tell you with 100% certainty because I have not seen your configuration, my best guess would be in the absence of any other start key then the cycle start key is the one to press.

Does your control look like the one in this manual?

Tom and Bart,

Yes the cycle start worked. Problem was the baud rate on the BTR was set wrong at the factory. Once I had the correct setting cycle start did it. My control does not look like the one in the manual you directed me to. I do have a hardcopy of the same manual, thanks for the link though. Now I am working on figuring out how to format the gcode properly so the machine will accept it. So far a lot of good progress. Thanks again!
