2nd try Computer power

I know that is not what I asked but what I should have asked was how much it cost to keep a computer on per hour. With monitor speaker modem on.

0,2 kWh each hour. Less with a LCD-monitor. You have to multiply with the price the power-station charges one kWh.

Run it about 16 hours a day - costs about $35 a month.

See my other post with the B in the subject I used to leave my two computers (sometimes 3) on 24/7 I found each one was costing me about about $1.50 a day or 45 dollars a month in my high electric cost area.

26 cents per kilowat . I cut the cost by going to lcd monitors which cutthe cost by about 20 dollars a month. Now I have finally started shutting down the computers at night. That saves at least an additional $40 a month and I do not even turned the third on which was dedicated to the program to detect alien transmissions, for got the name.

You are about as retarded as a Usenet poster can be. That behavior proves it.

You are retarded for leaving the monitors on AT ALL when you are not using the consoles. DOH!

Hahahahaha... My 3 run 24/7 and ALL 3 do SETI units to the tune of more than 20 a day. The dual CPU unit does 15 a day in pairs.

I am in the 99.819 percentile, and there are only about 9012 ahead of me, out of 4,819,211 total users.

Looks like you lost out on doing that right too.

The monitors use more than twice what the PCs use. All you had to do is turn off the monitors, and your bill would have dropped from $40 to $15.

I say you are dead on the mark. About 10$ a week for a high end computer is a pretty good chunk.

I think I get your point. If the Internet is going to be used for telephones the power comapny is going to be making a bundle or maybe there will be another power crunch.

I use the computer 2-3 hours every two days, I get a bill of about 50 euro each two months. It's about 400 kWh in 4 months. It's about 6,6 cents for the first 600 kWh.Next ones are more expensive. If you really want to check how much your computer consumes, turn everything else at home off, and with the computer running check your energy meter;there should be normally on it something like:'One kWh is (e.g.)400 revolutions of the disc'Measure how many seconds does it take the disc to revolute one, and then calculate how manz times does it revolute in an hour. Then, you will find the wattage.E.G.it spins 100 in an hour, then it's 250 W.

Bullshit. I run 3 24/7 and it was four. My bill is not even half 4 times 40.

I believe your computer will not need to be on to use voice over IP phones. Correct me if I am wrong but my understanding is that phones will connect to internet thru hardware connected to your cable modem. Only your cable modem will need to be running.
