COPPER CONDUCTORS USED FOR EARTHING

Respected Sir, I have got two questions regarding copper conductors used in earthing mesh.


  1. Is there any difference(in their electrical, physical properties or in any respect) between copper conductors used for earthing and those used for transmission and distribution?


  1. We have got some spare copper conductors from the lot whoch we have purchased for transmission and distribution. Could these be used in earthing mesh as earthing conductors?

Usually transmission conductors have a steel center core, (overhead conductor). As normal building wire is usually insulated. Most utilities in the US do not use copper as transmission wiring any more. They use Aluminum with a steel core, once called ASCR.

Are these conductors insulated? If they are then they would be fine as long as you strip off the insulation.

Hint, longer is better than larger. deeper is better than shallower.
