Heat pump thermostat

Jan 27, 2006 2 Replies

My sister has a heat pump. She has bought a thermostat that says it works in 99% of homes.

Many years back I bought a programmable thermostat for my home that has gas heat. I remember at the time I bought it there were thermostats that would only work with heat pumps.

Are the newer thermostats compatible with heat pumps or do I need to get one that is for heat pumps only?

Hard to say from here, but I have put in a couple of those thermostats that said they fit 99% of applications. they did, indeed fit the old units I used them on.

Hi there--

I just put a $50 Home Depot fancy-pants programmable in my house. I also have gas heat, but I distinctly remember that in the 89 (!) page manual that there were instructions for installing with a heat pump.
