I think I'd like to have it shipped in from Venezuela where it's about 25 cents a gallon. OTOH, if all those people here driving gas guzzlers would quit driving them, you'd see the price drop in a week. It's simply supply and demand driving the price up.

Masses., people round where I live sware a millenium civil war is coming...just look at the new schemes in gasoline theft...A friend of mine sent me a picture of some Arabian Oil Prince had his 6 figure car encrusted all around in diamonds. Cost = Miliions. I say Why?
Because he has an asset that generates millions and that's what he chooses to spend it on. Some people can generate millions by hitting a small round object with a club or by kicking it. Some get other things from their parents. Good luck to all of them - none are going to have more than one lifetime to think back on. Diamond encrusted cars are pretty harmless compared to using that money to, say, fund terrorists.
Some petrol in the UK is/was on sale for £1.99 a litre in the last few days. The headline news today is that gas prices are going to rise a further 40% this year.
The next year could be very, very interesting. Unfortunately here, in the UK, ordinary citizens aren't allowed guns - only the criminal ones are..

Ooops... too many capitalizations, Roy.
You are transparent.
I think it will force research into alternative energy sources so on one hand it is a good thing. Look for some vehicle with huge increases in MPG by the end of the year.
There is a very easy way to lower prices in the short term. The new President should show leadership and state "We put a man on the moon. We harnessed nuclear technology. I propose a similar Manhattan project type effort with the goal of getting off oil imports in 5 years and we will share that technology with the rest of the world."
The oil speculators won't be able to sell their options fast enough.

----------------------------------- Oh yeah ! Haven't you read what happens to alternate energy scientists. Be careful they might show up and suppress you too., it's jeapordizing the legal bread & butter of tycoons and such.
I agree with you somewhat in that someone must do something of iqual effect to solve the problem.

It's refreshing to hear the voice of sanity on the newsgroups once=20 in a while.
Yep, who should care what I make or what I spend it on? "I like=20 toys; get over it." =20
Gee. We're being told the only reason gas is going up is because of=20 the weak dollar. Seems there might just be a we more to it than=20 that. ;-)
Your government found out what a few rabble-rousers could do with a=20 few guns, oh, 240ish years ago. ;-)

Well, the Saudis are saying that crude should be in the $60/barrel range.
Congres is trying to plug the Enron Loophole. The lobbyists for the speculators are screaming. So I'm thinking that we're on the right track. We didn't know what happened to power in California or to Enron until after it was all over.
Did you hear, petrol manufacturers will not increase production. No comment!? People run on LPG and solve your problems!
