dimensions

Hi,

I am a dutch professor teaching design. I want to have my students design LEGO and DUPLO bricks with a 3D-CAE package (Autodesk Inventor), and than put several individual bricks together in a assembly. Therefor I am searching for the dimensions of the LEGO and DUPLO bricks. I understand that the are in inches. Anyone can help?

Geometry, provided by Jef Poskanzer ( snipped-for-privacy@netcom.com): Thanks to various pointers, especially the MIT course notes, here is the metric version. **All measurements in mm.**

Hi,

Thanks for your respond. Looking at the numbers, I presume they are converted from inches. Is that right?

I do not know how the above dimensions were obtained. I assume someone measured a brick. Below are the measures, in inches, that I get from measuring a brick. Since the brick was design in Denmark, I would have thought the dimensions would be metric, but the inch dimensions seem to be more exact when putting the ruler next to a brick.

spacing of knob centers: 5/16 diameter of knobs: 3/16 height of block: 3/8 height of knobs: 1/16 thickness of block walls: 1/16 outer diameter of cylinders: 1/4 thickness of cylinder walls: 3/128 (?)

Not given above: length of block: 1-1/4 width of block: 5/8
