So when did Technic die?

I go to Target, and I see nothing Technic related. Not even anything Mindstorms related. It's all "themed" Lego, with sports, Harry Potter, and a few sets for general building.

So when did Lego axe my favorite part, the Technic line?

8455 is an excellent technic kit. Add an air tank and it's nearly = perfect.
