I think that the uuencode output file uses 60 character lines, add one newline character and that gives 335K. Note that that is in *bytes* and the communication line speeds are given in *bits* per second. So if you're getting an effective 33Kbps (faster than a 26.6 modem will do, about what a 50kbps modem will actually do) and that's well over 1 minute of waiting for the download.
