A few years ago, WMIX, one of the local radio stations morning show guys did a April Fools Day gag where they had (many) listeners convinced that they were sending garage door opener signals through their transmitter and opening garage door all over town. People who caught on even were calling the station and telling other listeners that it was working.
A couple of years before that, they held the "Mix 106.5 First Annual TV Drop" to benefit a local charity. The way it supposedly worked was, you made a donation for a chance to catch a brand new television set that they would drop from a local landmark building (the "Shot Tower") in downtown Baltimore. If you caught the TV, you got to keep it. They even went as far as to say that a fraternity was going to try to catch a big screen TV with a blanket.
I happen to drive by the Shot Tower later that day and there was a big banner on it that read, "Happy April Fools Day from JoJo and Kenny, and Mix
106.5!"
People will believe anything.
