Boron Nitride Nanotubes

I was reading about this discovery:

Nano-belts seem to be built on top of the nanotubes themselves, using the nanotube as a mold/template on which to build on top of.

I'd like to ask about this in connection with the much-sought Boron Nitride nanotubes, whose properties are believed to be at least as useful as Carbon Nanotubes.

Is it possible that carbon nanotubes, which seem to be relatively easily synthesized, could themselves be used as mold templates upon which B and N could be deposited to make BN nanotubes??

Has anyone ever tried this approach? Comments?
