Summary of Job Content: The Chief Engineer leads the composite product producibility and process development for process engineering. The ideal candidate will have experience with manufacturing composite structures. Pertinent qualifications of the position include evaluation of new design for implementation, Chair program Material Review Board (MRB), mentor engineers, pursue new manufacturing technologies, and lead continuous improvements for composite structures.

Other responsibilities include working with our customers to convert metal aircraft structures into composite structure. The candidate will be required to communicate the effort in written and oral forms. Dimensions: Complexity (Knowledge / technological)--Extensive Aerospace Component and Assembly Design, Manufacturing, and Assembly experience and expertise. Proficient in Composite product design and process development. Fifteen (15) years of combined experience in tool design/fabrication engineering and project engineering (or engineering management) in support of high value aerospace or aircraft manufacturing Complexity (product diversity)--Multiple Product Lines in commercial and military markets. Area of Responsibility--Multiple Major Programs.

Manage the technical Implementation of the manufacturing tools and processes for composite structures. The duties include the manufacturing plan, tool concepts, development of processes capabilities, and quality acceptance of manufactured structures, and factory lay-out to support lean manufacturing execution. As new manufacturing technologies are identified, the Chief Engineer will be responsible for the evaluation, development and execution of the projects. The position also includes senior engineer for the MRB board along with the maintenance of its members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities includ Lead technical aspects of program proposal efforts, change/scope evaluation and general BD support Identify and mitigate technical risks to the program Chair Program Change Control Board: Manage through-put, requirements flow-down, scope evaluation, impact assessment Lead Process Control Implementation for Program: Plan by product, SPC/ SQC, lean mfg, six sigma Chair Program Material Review Board: Senior MRB, manage MRB authority/ MRB bulletin, disposition/C&CA effectiveness Serve as mentor for engineers, support and production personnel that support the program and the plant Support development and maintenance of the Program Plan Serve as primary technical interface with customer and between Program and the plant Lead technical problem resolution affecting program processes and products Lead and support continuous improvement of Program processes, materials and technology Support supplier management in supplier technical issues, process control, lean development and effective C&CA Identify and pursue tooling, capital and IR&D projects in support of program, plant and division objectives Preferred Qualifications: B. S. in Engineering or Technical field (MS and/or MBA desired)

Technical/Performance Skills Fifteen (15) years of combined experience in tool design/fabrication engineering and project engineering (or engineering management) in support of high value aerospace or aircraft manufacturing Technical: Tool design and analysis Composite product design and process development Composite hand lay-up, fiber placement and filament winding manufacturing Composite machining methods and techniques Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GDT) / ability to read and understand technical drawings Manufacture of composite structures Systems / Process: Functional knowledge of, and leading teams in, the use of process improvement tools (e.g. Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma) Technical problem resolution with experience in using, and leading teams in the use of, problem analysis tools (e.g. Kepner Tregoe, Fishbone, Fault-tree, etc.) Effective application of SPC and Six Sigma methods to composite manufacturing processes and training of others in their use Proven ability to define procedures, write manufacturing instructions, and implement processes that produce positive results Good understanding of Engineering and Quality systems, and program plans High level of experience in Engineering material review, including development and/or review of nonconformance dispositions, cause and corrective actions Strong background in change control and configuration management Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) Leadership / Management: Working knowledge and unwavering support of safety Strong interpersonal skills and effective interface with production, functional support groups and customers at all levels High level of organizational skills and ability to function and make sound decisions with minimal direction in a fast-paced production environment Ability to manage multiple tasks and achieve required results in a matrix organization of program/plant support groups, including documentation and reporting of task status to the program, plant and customer Effective planning and risk mitigation skills with consideration for program objectives and the Big Picture effects Presentation preparation and presentation skills Preferred Experience / Knowledge / Skills (WANTS): Proposal development Management / supervisory experience leading teams (engineering, production, project or other) Supplier Management of technical issues
