Summary of Job Content: Support the Engineering Department's objectives with regards to tool design requirements. Assist with new start up programs and tool designs for composite structures and assemblies. Investigates, develops and verifies accuracy of complex tooling concepts and tooling definitions. Creates and revises drawings, models and tool usage instructions utilizing computer aided systems (CATIA V5) Dimensions: Staff (Service) - Number of employees providing service to is up to 12 staff

Budget Expenditures - Up to $100,000

Area of Responsibility - Multiple Major Programs, (Navy Mast and Latecoere Doors, KHI Beams)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities includ Investigates, develops and verifies accuracy of complex tooling concepts and tooling definitions. Creates and revises drawings, models and tool usage instructions utilizing computer aided systems (CATIA V5)

Design and modification of tooling required to support aerospace composite structure manufacture including lay-up mandrels, trim and machine fixtures and assembly fixtures.

Preferred experience with automated tape lay-up (ATL) fixtures and Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) fixtures.

Analyze customer's Digital Product Definitions, drawings, specifications, and P.O. requirements for product definitions.

Capable of conducting tolerance studies that conform to Customer technical design definitions.

Provide technical support for / lead engineering efforts with the Manufacturing and Design departments.

Develop and conduct research studies regarding process improvement and cost reduction.

Determine test procedures, manpower requirements, equipment, tooling, schedules and overall cost. Supervise work performed, summarize results and prepare reports as required.

Give technical presentations to staff and customers as required.

Prepare tooling strategy with detailed illustration, which prescribe a logical sequence of action in clear and concise language that can be used both by the Manufacturing personnel for production and the customer for hardware acceptance.

Lead production personnel through new manufacturing processes and help in evaluating progress.

Conduct critical design and performance reviews and final validation.

Prepare estimates and recommendations for bids and proposals. Preferred Qualifications: Competencies: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Strong technical capabilities with experience in design and build of composite structures & components.

Design: Understand drawing and Technical Specification requirements. Participates in tool/equipment try-outs to ensure requirements are met. Strong project manage capabilities which includes experience in cost, schedule, and risk management.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or/Experience: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or industrial science and 5-15 years of experience in advanced composite technology or equivalent combination of education and experience related to the aircraft / aerospace industry with 6 years of mechanical engineering experience.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of MS Office and engineering software (e.g. CATIA V, CAD and MRP systems).
