Ideal plastic tubing for water cooled computer?

[Responding from sci.chem] What kind of experimental chemists do we have here????? Our old lab standby is Tygon Tubing, for all of the above reasons. Won't split, good heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance, on and on. Use water anyway, it won't leak.

Tygon is the latest fashion in water cool tube. If you want tight bends, UV resistance, and don't mind paying through the nose, it's fine.

Too stiff to form into tight bends....It's obvious you have never done PC a water cooling system. One of the most important considerations is flexibility. It does not need great strength at very high temperature as in the case of a car cooling system.

No. It is a formulation of PVC, complete with lots of growth sites for biology. Some versions are available with a silicone inner lining.

Tygon is a brand name for a wide range of tubing, not a particular material. There are several formulations including urethane, silicone, and PVC.

Personally, I think urethane tubing would be best in the app. Urethane tubing is available from very soft - close to silicone - to quite high durometers as used in pneumatic controls. As the original poster seemed to understand, the reliability of the connections is a bigger consideration than the tubing material.

Nylon tube with brass compression fittings works well, normally used in pneumatic systems, it's easy to work with, and relatively cheap. Sharp corners do need elbow fittings. Common pipe size from 4mm to 12mm.

Plastic fittings are entirely suitable at the moderate tempaeratures and low pressures in question; and more compatible with water.

If you don't want to "loop" or don't have the room.

There is no question that the right kind of plastic will last longer than rubber. Rubber, reinforced or not, is relatively short lived.

What we have here are experimental chemists with *lots* of experience having Tygon (TM) and rubber tubes disconnect themselves from barbed fittings. Usually at 2 AM on Sunday morning.

You're right that glycol is overkill in this application. On the other hand, I doubt that convection is going to play much role in a pumped system like this, and the heat capacity is probably not much an issue with this (very undemanding) application.

...And which kind of plastic would that be, I wonder, that lasts way longer than 10 years in a temperature cycling, high vibration environment?

Are we back to PVC ..er. Tygon again??

Well, we're talking about the inside of a computer ... hardly a high vibration or high temperature environment. My money is on polyethylene for this application, though PVC or other plastics should serve well enough. I specifically mentioned PE because it can be easily used with compression fittings.
