Improvement to Petroff equation for highly loaded journal bearings

Folks

If anyone is interested, I have recently derived an equation for the friction loss of a journal bearing under highly loaded conditions. You may be aware that under low loads, a simple equation, known as the Petroff equation, is used for estimating the friction force. The equation I have derived applies for high loads, and is obtained by considering the short bearing approximation in the limit that the eccentricity ratio goes to zero. I also obtain simple expressions for the minimum oil film thickness and peak pressure. For details see the following web link:

The above paper will be published, very soon, in a UK journal, Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J, Journal of Engineering Tribology Hope this is of interest

Journal

Ian, thanks for posting this link to your paper. I would like to encourage more folks to do this sort of thing. It makes useful results like this accessible to a broad group of people who may not get to see the journal where you will be publishing it (that is not a journal that I have ready access to).
