Wind Turbine Generators

Anyone ever hear of this company and if so, is there any validity to their product or claims? Could prove interesting development in Wind Turbines. They claim they have anew generator whic inreases the power output in Wind turbines by up to 50% and elimanates the need for mechanical reduction transmissions and pitch control.

Dear Sugna41:

I'd never head of them. Switching complexity and use of permanent magnets will be problematic for long term operation.

Pitch control keeps the blades from going overspeed, and to allow service, and their switching technology isn't going to help those. So it is typical double-speak. The rest may be possible, as their "gains" may be obtained when a more typical system is not operating at optimum rpm.

There's something in this comment. Permanent magnets do tend to fade. On the other hand, I was trying out a 6HP outboard on a sailboat yesterday, vintage 1965, and its flywheel, whirling a permanent magnet near an ignition coil, could still fire up the cylinders. OB mechanics buy new flywheels, or remagnetize them, I believe.

Their device may be backed up by the National research council of Industry Canada but I have been able to confirm any data to date.

There's some more info under "news and media". It looks legit. The concept is sound, but as they say, the devil will be in the details.

usually there is a considearble time lapse between development of a new product and the market place. For some reason, NA markets seem to be very slow in testing new designs for renewables unless it involves massive subsidies.
