i want to buy a relatively inexpensive metallurgical microscope for a school science project. what would be your recommendations? what budget?
only need 400x max but want camera port.

Buy a used one.
Don't worry about the camera port, you can go through the eyepiece and save $$$.
You can probably get a new stripped down model for about $3000 USD.
