brierley drill grinder help

Hello everyone, I have just recently acquired a Brierley ZB 25 drill grinder and am seeking info on how to use it properly. It came with no info of manuals and I am having trouble getting consistent results due to not knowing how to set the drill up properly in the chuck and the correct relief angles required for different size drills.

Thanks

You Lucky Bastard :-) I have used the ZB 32 before, loved it.

I would contact Brierley for manuals, but in the meantime I can help a bit.

First you have to have the right cam, I hope you got the full set with it. Check here for the cams to use with what.

you have the proper BR 4057 for 2fl rh drills. set it in place.

dress the wheel to ensure it is nice and flat. hold the diamond dresser in the chuck, touch off and taking .002 passes.

Sort you drills into sizes of groups corresponding to metric sizes (ei 5/16=8mm) These will match the numbers on the setting blade.

Set the workhead to the drill angle being used (90-118-135 etc)

Insert the drill and snug up the chuck but do not tighten, you should still be able to rotate the drill.

Swing the setting gage into place so that the lip of the drill will sit on the recess and line up with the number closest to it's size.

Tighten the chuck while holding the drill on the setting gage. Swing the gage out of the way.

Carefully bring the workhead up to the grinding wheel(with the motor on), while rotating the drill slowly till you touch off.

Rotate the drill and anvance the workhead till the drill is sharpened. Use coolant if available. If you have to remove a lot of material to clean up the drill, you may have to reset it to keep the angles right.

Thanks for the great info, now I know which cams do what and how to set the drill up in the chuck properly I am getting MUCH better results The only mystery left is what effect do the different positions at the rear of the chuck have, I suspect from experimenting they are the relief angle for the drill ( numbered positions from 0 to 16 corresponding with 0 to 16 degrees relief ???? )

Thanks so much for setting me in the right direction
