Got the new HF catalog today. They have a cheap grinder I wanted. So I drove the 40 mile trip to my local HF store.
"Sorry sir, we don't have that." "But it's right here in the catalog!" "HF Catalog, HF online and HF retail are THREE separate companies. We don't talk to each other..."
If he hadn't been MUCH bigger than me, Ida smacked him.
How you figure out who sent you the catalog is anybody's guess. So, call before you go... mike

I know where your coming from with HF. I called thelocal store one day to inquire on their coolant system they sold. I was informed thy had two in stock. Great I say, so I drop what I'm doing and run the 40 or
50 miles round trip to HF. I get there and a fellow already has one of them in his hands, and is looking a lathe over. I ask him where he found the coolant setup and he pointed me to the one on the shelf. I pick it up and carry it to the cashier, with th fellow with the other sytem right behind me. His was was not in any box. Neither was mine, but mine did have a HF tag on it. I was informed they could not sell that as it was considered display. I said well you said you had two in stock, and the cashier says yes, and points to the one the fellow is holding and the one that I have and like a smart ass goes 1 + 1 = 2, so yes right now we have two in stock, but we don'[t sell displays and just as soon as that perso pays for the one he has we will have 1 i stock......Whats the point of carrying it as in stock and not selling it. It should be flagged as display stock item not for sale, and customers iformed what their inventory is showing is actually counting the displays as well, so if they tell you they have one in stock, better beware.
I happened to find out what our local HF does with all their returns. They dumpsterize them all. I have been told they have thrown drill presses and grinders welding outfits etc that have been returned and claimed to have problems with. Don;t know if its true or not, as their dumpster is behind a chainlink fence, and I don;t have the gonads to crawl over it and take a peak and see what may be in there.

I talked to the manager of our local store about that when they first opened. He said they were only allowed to stock about 40% of the total Harbor Freight line and that he had maybe 90-95% of that.
Once you know to watch for it it's not too tough to tell.
I've never had a problem getting the store to honor a catalog or Web price though.

I've always found that what the catalogue advertised would be at the store if it wasn't "sold out" and if it was sold out they were always willing to give me a rain check. However the internet sales are different than the store sales. I have found things on sale on the internet but not on sale at the store however the store manager said they would honor all internet sale prices but you had to bring in a computer copy of the item and sale price for their records. I presume you noted the name of the dumpster company and plan to pay them a visit .

That's been my experience too but only with the store related catalogs. Their mail order catalogs have a lot of items that are not available in their stores and their Web site has even more.
