Chop saw question

Sorry for the double post. I looked at a 14" chop saw today that is a VERY heavy duty unit good size cast iron with a 3 phase motor the owner wants $50.00 for it. Is that a fair deal? I will be putting in a 3 phase converter for my lathe and a milling machine (when I find a miller). I could also swap the motor for single phase as it is belt driven. Any input would be great.

Can you buy a good arbour and the metal to make the base for less?? Pay yourself $0.10 an hour, and it's still a steal.

YES, well worth $50! This is a find that you'll be talking about for a long time. Congrats.

The only question I have is are you sure your's is a 14" saw. The one on auction and the one I used just like it was a 10" saw. There are 14" saw like that though most I've seen don't have the guard going all the way down the front like that.

I bought a similar, but smaller, Everett saw from a local ebay seller for about $39. Unfortunately, the consumables cost a lot more than the saw! The saw has a single phase 3 HP Baldor motor on it so that alone made it worth buying. I don't think I'll need to cut any large hardened stuff so the rest of my cuts will be on my big Wells 8M horizontal bandsaw.
