Cleaning large amounts of dirty brass

Stuff is 7.62 x 51 Cavim. Has so much asphaltum "sealer" that it will lock up the HK in 2-3 rounds. Switching to WCC or R-P commercial ammo and firing 2-3 rounds wil "clear" the bore of the sealer, then will fire 2-3 of the Cavim again.

Good brass, so just need to remove the gunk and brighten it up a bit.

Several thousand rounds, so vibrating/tumbling doesn't seem to be a viable option.

thanks

A bit of solvent on a rag. DON'T soak them! What shape is the powder in them? Sphere, rod, etc. You might tumble them but that might grind the powder into...powder if done too long. Tumble a few for a period of time, pull a bullet and inspect the powder, repeat.

oops, sorry.

Didn't mention, these are fired cases needing to be cleaned before loading.

thanks

Do you mean "Switching to WCC or R-P commercial ammo and firing 2-3 rounds" clears the bore, or the chamber?

Option one would be a cloth with solvent, and wipe each round down before loading. Or get a bowl, "dunk, wipe, place in clean pile; repeat."

Alternatively, load two round "dirty brass" two rounds "clean"...

In that case, soak 'em. Then wipe each one as you dry them off. Or rinse and inspect after drying.

Hmmm... It would seem to be the _best_ option, since all you need to do is fill the tub, turn it on, and go do something else for a while.

Numbers don't matter much in tumbling... just enlarge the vessel.

I'd soak them in lacquer thinner myself - Then maybe tumble with cork or something to absorb what is left over. Find the chemical that melts it off. Turpentine would likely do it as well.

I'd have a concern of having trace inside. That might cause more trouble than expected.
