I've decided to quit taking a risk and to replace the PVC air lines in my workshop - I was unaware of teh danger with using PVC years ago when I ran the lines. I intend to use copper - specifically the slightly thicker commercial grade (blue lettering instead of red, as found at the home centers).
THat leads me to question what size (diameter). Currently the PVC is
1/2 inch sched. 40. with a 3/8 in. hose between the compressor and the lines. I am thinking of running at least 3/4 in. diameter to gain the slight volume increase. My compressor is a 5 hp, belt driven, single stage, 20 or 25 gal tank. My workshop is 37 feet across from end to end (compressor is at one end). I priced 1 in. diameter but the price more than doubles for 3/4 in. dia. - functionally would it be worth going with the 1 in. dia? Or, 1 in. dia. to the first "drop" and then reducing to 3/4 in. dia. FWIW, I am only using one drop at a time.
