I'm looking for a good to very good shape die filer to help make instrument pannels, etc. for my shop (small one like Keller 1A). Does anyone have one that they don't use anymore (and preferrably with files)? If so, please send me an email or reply to this forum.
I've got one, Dave, a little Keller, which I've been working on from time to time. It was knocking when I got it, and the air pumping function (which blows filings away from your work) didn't work, so I took it apart. The knocking was simple - one of the overarm things wasn't adjusted right. Everything on it is in excellent shape. I even found a NOS nice GE motor the exact size to replace the POS Dayton (rusty) that was on it. I only have 4 files, but they're all new. It has both overarm supports, both the overarm filing rest and the upper spring-loaded arm for supporting the upper end of a saw blade. The filer isn't too rare but one with both overarms is. I'm planning to put it into service pretty soon, but I'm open to an offer. It probably weighs 30 pounds boxed up, and it would ship from zip 98033.
Ken, If you have the time, and the inclination, Metal Lathe Accessories has a kit of castings that make an excellent filing machine. You can see it here:

bought the kit and it was easy to make a machine that works well. ERS
Actually, I was given a die filer! Can you believe that - all I have to do is pay shipping. It's going to take some work to get it right, but all of the overarms are there and it doesn't look too bad.
Now, I have to find some files. Can someone help me find a vendor or does someone have some extras for sale?
Someone that posts messages regularly here in rcm (Grant, maybe) produced a list of manufacturers of die files. You might try using the Google Groups search for this newsgroup for about the last 6 months or so (maybe longer).
IIRC, the files are fairly rare, and in very limited inventories in the U.S.
There are some manufacturers that produce some thick common files with parallel sides, which can be adapted for filer use.
