What is the best way of removing duck tape residue on the paint of a newer pickup without damaging the paint?

It was recommended to me by 3M tech support for removing their Super 77 spray adhesive. If that fails try setting it on fire.

Safety Klean, or parts washer solvent Bug & Tar remover
Mineral spirits. It's not hot enough to damage the paint.
Kerosene or diesel
Lighter fluid (which is naptha). I use Ronson.

Light mineral spirits, paint thinner, lighter fluid, VM&P naptha(my choice) will all work, unless it's been baked on by the sun, then you may have some troubles. There's some citrus-based adhesive removers that I haven't tried personally, but seem to work pretty well from reports.

I'd second WD-40. As far as I'm concerned, that's it's only use -- getting sticky stuff off metal.
