Forming Eye Hook on End of 3/32 Drill Rod

Well that got a pretty good laugh out of me. I'm sure it didn't help the original poster but I was pretty well stumped on the task as well.

They're gonna have to be heated I think to form the part.

If Steve doesn't want to polish them himself then he could get one of those vibratory tumbler systems to do it.

Unless there is a need to heat treat the parts I would avoid drill rod as well.

No chance of finding commercially made ones? I know some are pretty small, and I believe that they are shaped just as you described. Ken.

A Duo-Mite bender will do it, but unless you're making many pieces the $200+ price tag would be hard to justify.

You don't suggest the loop diameter you require, but drill rod comes "annealed", so should bend well enough if the OD is large enough. On the other hand, if you don't want to "heat it" to harden it after bending, why are you using it? It's expensive as "wire" goes.

How about a little more information? How "perfect" does the loop need to be? Similar items that I have seen have a bend that goes another 90 degrees or so past those eye hooks you see in the home center and are polished so as not to snag the yarn at all. Does the end need to be opened or closed?

The biggest question would be quantity. For 3 pcs I'd just monkey around by bending them over a dowel or something and re-bending until they looked right. For 100, I'd jig up something like a spring former die and add the offset bend (centering the loop) after the main loop is formed.
