galvanizing

I would like to learn toreplace the zinc that has been remove from galvanized stell during a welding process. Pieces are relativly small and I thought electrplating might work. Hot dip is out of the question.

There are zinc bearing paints at your welding suppliers place. Comes in spray cans, too. Probably not a good as the original coating, but they say it has the same galvanic action.

Check with the place that does the galvanizing. They should have sticks that you use with a torch to touch up places. Use a torch to heat it up and rub the stick over it. A wire brush used on it can hide the fact it's been repaired. Our shop does this on a regular basis.

The parts ar too small for that, paint is out of the question. The only other thing I could do is make the part out of Al and I dont have the equipment for that. One of the parts is just two washers welded together. I was told there was somone in this group that did this.

The joints on my dog kennel (purchased 13+ years ago) were painted with zinc bearing paint. No rust to date and Thor the wonder dog never spent a night in it.

I've heard good reports og "Galvafroid" and "Zinga" cold galvanising products. Google should get you their web sites.
