The rapid second shot was intended to follow the first bullet into body armor. Generally the first round will shatter and stop..and leave that spot damaged. A round right on its heels will penetrate the now busted spot and into the target.
The AN-94 fires the second round so close to the heels of the first round..that they tend to make a single hole in the target.
Ive not heard any actual field data but in theory..it should work very well.
On the other hand..the data that I have is that the AN-94 is a pain in the ass to use for most conscript troops and is only used by the elite guys who work with it every day.
The designer had ONE good idea..that fast second round. The rest of the gun is considered to be a pain in the ass.
