Here is a series of pics showing the filing out of an index spring for the month indicator on a Vacheron watch. It took about 90 minutes.
I started out w/ 1mm spring steel stock and ground the finished part to
2/100 mm of the correct height on the surface grinder I purchased (Pete and Jerry, I really do think it is better than sliced bread). Then I polished it down to final size.
