Do you not understand what a Newton is as a unit of force.
Roughly, 1 Newton is a force of 1/4 pound. You can look up the exact conversions. .
The US system used the pound as both a force and a weight, which was acceptable until we went into space where force and weight aren't the same. Metric keeps them separate, a Kilogram is a mass (not a weight) and a Newton is a force.
